 St. Paul's Parish Day School

v     A place where children are encouraged to be compassionate, self-reliant, eager to explore the world around them, and responsible for their own behavior.

v     A learning environment that values respect for self and others, creativity and excellence.

v     A school promoting academic excellence, active learners and creative problem solvers eager to apply learning to life experiences.

We provide a learning experience of high academic standa  rds in a small, caring community in which students, families, and faculty support and share in each other’s growth. Compassionate, skilled, and enthusiastic teachers, administrators, and staff motivate each child to develop his/her intellectual abilities, a sense of self-worth, and personal responsibility.  The values and ideals of a Christian community are modeled by our faculty, administration, and staff.

Students of all racial, religious, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds are welcome. We welcome students with educational and physical challenges to the extent that we can effectively serve them.

KINDERGARTEN

We seek to prepare the children academically, socially and emotionally to have the tools necessary for further academic exploration and development. Care is taken to give children the opportunity to realize that learning is fun, exciting and challenging. Our basic program is enriched with physical education, art, Spanish and music taught by specialists. Class size does not exceed 20 students. We provide a full day (8:00 - 2:00), developmentally appropriate, academic kindergarten.

GRADES 1 – 3

Our primary grades emphasize basic skills. Reading, writing, listening, and math concepts and computations are of primary importance. Reading instruction is based upon an understanding of phonics with an emphasis on literature. Manipulatives are included in the teaching of math concepts. Personal responsibility, self-esteem, and social awareness are emphasized in the learning process. Creative expression is encouraged in all areas with abundant opportunity for oral expression.

Art, music, Spanish, physical education, integration of computer technology, field trips and cross-age activities enrich our basic curriculum.  Our library provides a warm and nurturing environment for books, board games and crafts.  Class size does not exceed 20 students.

  GRADES 4-5

Building on basic skills learned in the primary grades, students expand into a further enriched learning environment.  Reading includes vocabulary expansion, comprehension skills and literature.  Written expression is present in all areas.  Math concepts are expanded with more critical thinking skills.  Reading , grammar, spelling, writing, math, social studies and science are core subjects, with physical education, art, music, Spanish, library, and computer skills extending the program.

Individual expression is nurtured within a creative environment.  There is ample opportunity for oral speaking and creative expression.  Individual responsibility, successfully meeting individual goals for achievement, and care for others are values emphasized and nurtured within the classroom, as we believe these are the traits which build self-esteem.   Field trips, assemblies, and cultural events are appropriately included in the curriculum.  Class size is limited to 20 students.

 GRADES 6-7-8

Classes in Language Arts/literature, history/geography, math, science, Spanish and physical education, are enriched with art and computer skills.  Math is taught with attention to individual achievement seeking to reach basic Algebra skills by the end of the 8th grade.  We are currently supporting individual students through Algebra II. Our science curriculum includes basic biological, physical, and earth sciences, with an emphasis on lab and field experience. A student created yearbook, academic competitions (Spelling Bee, Academic Rodeo, Math Counts, etc.), and after school sports programs are also available. Drama and oral presentations are incorporated into classroom instruction.  Field trips and cultural events are appropriately included in the curriculum.  Class size is limited to 20 students per class, with more than 20 students allowed per grade level. Individual attention and achievement is emphasized.

Established in 1971, St. Paul’s Parish Day School provides a specialized educational ministry benefiting the community at large while honoring God, the source of wisdom and knowledge. St. Paul’s is a Christian school where daily worship follows the forms and theology of the Episcopal Church.
